Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to be Buddhist to stay at Seven Oaks?
No. We welcome all spiritually centered groups aligned with our core values of compassion, inclusivity, and non-harmful behaviors.
Can we reserve the entire campus for our group?
Yes, if your group has 35 or more attendees, you can enjoy exclusive use of the property and meeting halls. Smaller groups may share use of the retreat center. The Reservations Manager can help work out agreements to suit each group’s needs.
What restrictions are there on the menus you offer?
We provide nutritious and delicious vegetarian (ovo-lacto) meals. Our chefs can also accommodate vegan, gluten- and dairy-free diets.
How do I learn about the pricing?
Please contact our Reservations Manager for pricing. Rates are dependent on the specific needs of each group.
Is Seven Oaks a nonprofit organization?
Yes. Seven Oaks operates as a religious nonprofit organization under the umbrella of its parent organization, the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW).
If there is another group there when we come, how will meals be arranged?
Dining tables will be reserved for each group. If your group is in silence, any other visitors will be notified.
What airport is closest? How can we get from the airport to Seven Oaks?
The closest airport is Charlottesville-Albemarle. You can often find better rates and more choices traveling via Washington Dulles Airport, which is one hour from Seven Oaks; BWI and Washington National are about 90 minutes away. To get from the airports to Seven Oaks, renting a car is the easiest option.
What AV equipment will we be able to use? Is there an extra charge?
The main meeting hall provides AV equipment at no extra charge. This includes a microphone, speakers, projector, and a webcam. The room also offers a pull-down screen and large-screen TV.
Do you have rooms and ramps for physically disabled guests?
Accessibility at the Seven Oaks campus is being addressed this year, as currently key spaces are not accessible for guests with mobility issues that prevent them from using stairs and navigating uneven surfaces. We place the highest priority on remedying this! Lighthouse has some accessibility (ramps, rooms, bathrooms, lift to meeting space); however, the dining hall and other buildings are not currently accessible.
Can I use my cell phone while I am there?
Cell phone use is at the discretion of your group leader(s). The signal on campus can be spotty depending on your carrier.
Can I arrange a single room for myself?
Single rooms can sometimes be available depending on the overall needs of each group. Your group leader(s) can request this when speaking to the Reservations Manager. We plan to add a single-room dormitory to campus in the near future.
